Εμπνευσμένη από το βιβλίο Eternal Sorrow για τις παραδόσεις των καρελιανών μοιρολογιών, η ταινία βασίζεται σε αρχαίες ερωτήσεις που αντάλλαξαν οι δημιουργοί, με τις απαντήσεις να παραμένουν άρρητες, πίσω από την κάμερα.

Structured as a string of returns before parting, the film explores Karelian ritual culture, transitional states, and farewell rites. Created during a residency in a small Finnish town shortly after the filmmakers left Russia in 2022, it reflects on displacement, silence, and invisibility. Shot on 16mm film over 12 days, it captures 24 seconds of footage and 360 landscape photos each day. Inspired by the book Eternal Sorrow on Karelian lamentation traditions, the artists asked each other questions from ancient texts. Their answers remained unspoken, concealed behind the camera.

Η Alena Starostina και ο Ivan Nikolaev είναι περφόρμανς και εικαστικοί καλλιτέχνες με βάση τη Δρέσδη. Αποφοίτησαν το 2007 από την Ακαδημία Θεάτρου της Αγίας Πετρούπολης με μεταπτυχιακό στην Υποκριτική. Από το 2006 έως το 2010 εργάστηκαν ως ηθοποιοί στο Maly Drama Theatre. Το 2010 ίδρυσαν το ανεξάρτητο collective theatre post, με το οποίο κέρδισαν το βραβείο Golden Mask και συμμετείχαν σε σημαντικά διεθνή φεστιβάλ. Alena Starostina & Ivan Nikolaev are performative and visual artists based in Dresden, Germany. They graduated in 2007 with a Master’s degree in Acting from the Saint Petersburg Theatre Academy. From 2006 to 2010, they worked as actors at the Maly Drama Theatre. In 2010, they co-founded the independent collective theatre post, becoming winners of the Golden Mask Award and participants in major international festivals. After relocating to Germany in 2022, they founded aliveduo in 2023. Their recent projects premiered at HELLERAU, the Brecht Festival, and the Ursula Walter Gallery.
