A child passes by while playing with a brides veil. Leaves crackle; everything lights up. Having drunk the Nature Virgin’s magic potion, he becomes her. He came looking for her; and leads her towards sensuality.
Katia Roessel completed her studies in Paris in 2009 at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, (French National Fine Arts), under the tutors Jean-Marc Bustamante and Christian Boltanski. She has worked on the television program Paris Cinq as an assistant director and has also collaborated with RE:Voir Video editions, where she discovered the work of Kenneth Anger. She provided production assistance for the French film production company Les Films de l’AprèsMidi, best known for its feature films by Manoel de Oliveira. Her first short film 'Le Giron' ('The Core') competed at the Cyprus International Film Festival (Nicosia) and the Peloponnesian-Corinthian International Film Festival in Greece, in 2011. Second part : 'Purgatoire' ('Purgatory') with producer Catherine Belkhodja (Maïwenn's mother, 2012 Césars nominee for 'Polisse'). 'René', her second short film, was shown at the same festivals, and at the Hrizanthema Horror & Fantasy Film Festival (Subotica) in Serbia, in 2013. The film has also been selected for Eidôlon Festival 2014 (postponed screening because of exclusivity in Cannes in May), for its National Premiere at AVIFF Cannes, at POINT IN THE ENDLESS UNIVERSE, open air cinematography festival, in Russia, for the FESTIVAL DU CINEMA DE LOME, in Togo, for the Qabila Short Film Festival, in Egypt, for the International Film Festival of Cinema & Sea in Mirleft, Morocco, for the 8th Athens International Short Film Festival - Psarokokalo, Greece, and for the FERFILM Festival in Ferizaj, Republic of Kosovo, in 2014. Her first selection of poems 'Les Yeux Bandés' has been published by the French publishing house Mémoire Vivante. Extracts of her writings published in French and German reviews, with a program on Radio Libertaire. Her second selection of poems, 'fugace', has been published by Le Hasard d'Être, with chronicle in CCP Cahier Critique de Poésie. ‘Fugace’ is accomplished for being published, now, by Mémoire Vivante. She had the following Exhibitions : 'blue-movies' video series at Gallery Ivana de Gavardie in Paris, parts of the 'GLEE' series in 2012 in Seoul (South Korea), and in London and Brighton (G.B.), then in 2013 in Paris: exhibition 'toute pure' at Galerie Everest Standard and in February 2014 for Artplateforme Projet, Le Marais. A part of her ‘GLEE’ series will be included in TIME is Love.8, screenings curated by Kisito Assangni.
