Στην καρδιά της Μακεδονίας, στα καμποχώρια της Ημαθίας, ανάμεσα στο παραμύθι και το μύθο, κάθε Χριστούγεννα, έρχονταν τα «ρογκάτσια». Από τα παλάτια του Μέγα Αλέξανδρου, κατέβαιναν από παλιά «καπεταναραίοι» με σπαθιά και μεγάλα, μακριά γένια, για να σταυρώσουν τη γη, να πέσει ο σπόρος και να καρπίσει η νέα σοδιά.
Ο ζουρνάς, αντιστεκόμενος πεισματικά στους μοντέρνους καιρούς, κυριαρχεί στον αέρα εξελίσσοντας μια παράδοση χιλιάδων χρόνων Ελληνικής, Βαλκανικής και παγκόσμιας μουσικής.

In the heart of Macedonia, at the valley that lays between the palaces of Alexander the great, over the recent years an old custom revives during the Christmas period. The sound of zourna dominates the air. Resists the time stubbornly and evolves an ancient tradition of Greek, Balkan and world music.

Rogatsia, the Sense of Zourna celebrates the importance of small cultures. It points out the significance and the contribution of the individual, the unique and the particular to the global civilization. It portrays an “unseen” Greece where the landscape, the color, the sound and the smell, are all out and beyond the stereotypical view of foreign audiences.

Ο Γιάννης Κουφονίκος σπούδασε κινηματογράφο στο πανεπιστήμιο του Sheffield και Προηγμένα Συστήματα Υπολογιστών και Επικοινωνιών Εικόνας και Ήχου στο Αριστοτέλειο πανεπιστήμιο. Έχει εργαστεί ως σκηνοθέτης και μοντέρ σε ντοκιμαντέρ, κινηματογραφικές ταινίες και διάφορα τηλεοπτικά προγράμματα. Τα τελευταία χρόνια διδάσκει κινηματογράφο στο πανεπιστήμιο του Edge Hill.

Yiannis Koufonikos is a Lecturer in Film and Television Production at Edge Hill University. He holds a BA Hons in Films studies and MSc in Technologies of Sound and Image Processing. He is a multi-skilled professional with great experience in the field of media. As a freelance filmmaker he have been involved in a wide variety of projects and have worked on a large number of documentaries, TV entertainment programmes, shorts and feature films, music videos, commercial spots and educational videos.
