Jeremy Northcote is a lecturer in sociology at Murdoch University, Perth, Australia, with an interest in social equality and youth rights. His fascination for film and video reaches back to his experimentation as a child with his father's Super 8 camera. He seeks to utilise digital video to entertain and promote positive development among children and adults.
Director Statement
Mountain Bear dares children to dream to reach great things in their lives through the metaphor of sports. Although warned that not everyone can become a star athlete, the listener is encouraged to be a "star in their own sky". The uplifting message is conveyed in a catchy original rap song penned by DJ artist Kid Karumba and sung by talented voice-over artist Meghan Stefek (aka Merry Bella). Mountain Bear utilises freely available 3D animation technology (Unity3D), thereby showcasing the potential for developing high quality animations without the need for expensive software.
