Kirill Loginov. 27 years old. Born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. At the age of 14 moved with his family to St. Petersburg. In 2016 graduated from the University of Film and Television with a degree in documentary filmmaking. In his work, he likes to complement the documentary style by implementing elements of magic and exploring magical realism.
Director Statement
I have often imagined that our most beautiful dreams turn to reality atop the roofs of houses. Right above us, while we sleep. That’s how the idea for this dance micro-film was born.
We rarely remember conversations from our dreams, but our tender bodies preserve emotions and sensations for a long time after. Therefore, I decided that people’s bodies have to tell the story and plots of our night-time visions through dance, while costumes will help the bodies to reincarnate into imaginary characters.
The clothes provided to us by the designer, Lesya Paramonova, hinted to me that my characters are embarking on a journey in the time of the pagans, for whom the dance permeates with a mystical, ceremonious atmosphere.
I’ve come up with a sequence of rituals inside the dance, and we’ve begun to develop a dance routine together with a choreographer. While on set, I researched improvisation. Musical fragments from the ballet by Igor Stravinsky and the topics raised by me have inspired each actress in their plastic performance.
To achieve such a bodily fantasy in a rehearsal hall, without the atmosphere provided by a location, the steadily rising sun, make up or costumes, would have been impossible.
I like to think about magic in real life, to fill the existing world with my fantasies about it. That’s why I most often work in genuine, locations and I fill them with magic using an artistic director.
Now I’m working on an audio-visual piece in which I’ll use the performative method to research the moment a person becomes one with nature. The product of this research will be a joint work of musicians and a choreographer. Created in the moment.
