This short experimental animation explores the growing anxiety surrounding the rise of authoritarianism in the United States and across the globe. It references figures like Donald Trump and Augusto Pinochet—leaders who manipulated public perception to consolidate power and wealth while eroding the democratic and moral foundations of their nations. The film’s uncertain spaces, rough textures, awkward imagery, and dissonant soundscape mirror the fragility and unease of these developments and the times we live in.

Gerald Habarth is an artist and animator currently serving as Associate Professor of Art at West Virginia University, where he heads the Electronic Media program in the School of Art and Design. He holds an MFA from the University of South Florida and a BFA from Parsons School of Design. His work has been exhibited and screened internationally at venues such as the Tampa Museum of Art, the Huntington Museum of Art, the Festival Les Instants Vidéo, and the Stuttgarter Filmwinter. In 2010, he founded the West Virginia Mountaineer Short Film Festival. He currently resides on the outskirts of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
