AIDFF ’s award ceremony was held in the crowded hall of Athens’ historical cinema Alkyonida, which revived after 23 years of silence. “Alkyonida” and “Studio” the two most historical cinemas of Athens, screened the Festival’s main program, which for nine days monopolized the attention of filmmakers.
The 4th Athens International Digital Film Festival, 13 - 21 December, took place under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and the support of City of Athens / Opanda.
The 4th Athens International Digital Film Festival received over 400 applications from 45 countries and screened more than 250 films, 140 in the competition section, 70 premieres, feature films, Documentaries, Video Art, Animation, Experimental, Video Dance. It also co organized with the International Wildlife Vaasa Film Festival of Finland (partner of the Festival) the "2nd International Panorama of Ecological and Science Films", which was created in order to contribute to the dissemination of science through the power of new media and digital technologies, which are now used by scientists worldwide. The Tributes and Workshops were held in Kypseli ’s Theatre (STUDIO) and LA Theater Theatre (former “Rages” Theater).
There are also more Supporters and Partners of Athens International Digital Film Festival we must not forget to mention such as Wildlife Conservation Film Festival from USA, which takes place in New York, Miami, Washington and other American cities, DUHOK International Film Festival, which is organized by the Cinema Directorate Duhok in cooperation with mitosfilm Berlin, Coventry University in England and Edge Hill University in England. The audience had the opportunity to enjoy 7 new short films especially created by Edge Hill Film Department students to be screened in AIDFF, something that also happened last year. We also attended, in premiere screening in Athens, the award-winning films from Camera Zizanio Festival 2014. The 4th AIDFF awarded Eugenia Chatzikou, teacher of many successful filmmakers that work in cinema, theater and television.
The tribute-Award to George Koutouzis, protagonist of the historical film "Evdokia" directed by Alexis Damianos had a special value. Very important was the Workshop about Photography by the Director and Director of Photography Giannis Klados and also the international panel discussion on subjects emerging from the 2ond Panorama of Ecological and Scientific films.
The cultural movement «Visual Journeys 2», an art exhibition, was hosted for ten days (18-28 December) in “Alkyonida” ’s cinema renovated art space. The participating artists were Barbara Spyrouli, Maria Litsopoulou, Kostis Kapelonis, Ira Sarantaki, Ginnis Klados, Maria Economou , Falah Gatti and Dimitris Psomodotis.
Athens International Digital Film Festival stands as an international meeting point for creators and audience, since its very first year. Simultaneously it achieved an alignment with the major developments regarding cinema, which is steadily moving towards the Digital Age. Featured as an innovative Festival it soon experienced an unexpected response from many filmmakers around the world.
